Who is Sylvia?

I’ve been thinking about my Sylvia’s Kitchen blog for quite a while (actually a LOOOOONNNNNGGGG time!)
I love to express myself in the kitchen, with food (though my husband would say I express myself way to often, vocally)…..it’s where I can show my creative side (the only one I have….you should see my stick figures)!  But, I wasn’t sure how to approach my blog.
Where to start…..
I guess the best thing to do is just jump in….so here we go!  Hold on!
I love to cook!  I didn’t get this passion from my mom or my grandmother, like so many kitchen artists do!  I’m not sure where it came from, but I can trace it back to one of my first jobs.  I was a manager at a little chicken joint called Chicken Unlimited (old, defunct franchise).  I loved short order cooking!  It was a blast!  AND, you could actually create really cool food on the flat top (if the owner wasn’t looking)!
It wasn’t until many years later that I  became a food magazine and cookbook junkie (BFN – before Food Network).  I started reading all the magazines I could get.  Back then, there weren’t many more than Gourmet and Better Homes & Gardens, but I read and I dreamed and I created food in my little home kitchen!
Gourmet Magazine was cool…..but, way out of my league!  It had ingredients I had never heard of, couldn’t pronounce and weren’t stocked at the Pig (Piggly Wiggly)!  But it was a wonderful journey of  learning and growing.  Out of reading that magazine, I knew I wanted to make food that looked and tasted gourmet, but was approachable and doable by anyone willing to take a chance in the kitchen!  Food shouldn’t be scary, creating meals doesn’t have to take 8 hours and putting a decent plate of food on the family dinner table must be a joy, not a chore.
That’s where I am today!  I want to get everyone in the kitchen, teach them a few basics, show them a few steps and help take the fear out of being a failure in the kitchen.
What’s holding you back today?
Put on the apron, grab a pan and let’s head for the kitchen!  It will be fun!  It will be challenging!  But, it can be so rewarding!  When a loved one looks at you with huge eyes and says….
“That’s the best thing I have ever tasted!”
You know you made it!
I hope this blog will help you in your day-to-day cooking, your special dinners and your holiday parties!  If there is ever something you want me to discuss, please let me know!  You can email me at sylvia@sylviaskitchen.com!  Don’t forget to check out my website!
